Hey Millie girls! I’m back again and this time I’m doing a product review of our NEWEST website arrivals from Hearts & Roses London as well as some tips on how to style them and how to mix prints. For those of you not completely familiar with the brand, they are a UK company that creates the most wonderful vintage inspired dresses! The fabrics are such a lovely weight with the perfect amount of stretch. Another great feature is that they come in a variety of numbered sizes as opposed to the more common S/M/L sizing system. For me, this definitely means a better fit.
These dresses offer an absolutely perfect silhouette with the fullest of skirts and the perfect length. H&R is also great because they do an amazing job of offering many plus sizes! Not to mention the fact that these dresses are very reasonably priced!
My eye was first drawn to the Rhombus dress. This little cutie has such an interesting combination of print and cut. The print is close to a more modern, trendy chevron-like pattern in black and red. However, the cut is 100% vintage inspired from the lovely bow embellished high neckline to the fitted waist and full skirt.
I had lots of fun print mixing with this one! I layered a black and white striped blouse underneath the dress and paired it with a leopard hat, brown belt and booties. I would wear this outfit right now! I also tried a fun winter outerwear combination with a vintage fur trimmed camel coat.
The Billie Floral dress was a more unexpected pick for me. I am usually more attracted to large prints as opposed to the smaller floral that decorates this piece. However, the fun cutout neckline drew me in and as soon as I put the dress on I was in love! This dress is great to layer over a cute sweater for chilly weather and will really shine when spring comes!
Here I styled over a pink sweater with a peter pan collar, hot pink belt, hair flower, and light pink wedges. This look would be great for a Valentine's Day date! Warm enough to wear in chilly weather but with a touch of bright colors to show that spring is on the way.
Next up, the Bowling for Bows dress is absolutely darling. How can you go wrong with bows and polka dots? I love the high collar and the way that the sleeves are cut. We all know how a badly cut sleeve can result in underarm disaster. This dress does a great job of preventing that! Bowling for Bows comes with a cute black ribbon and also has belt loops so you can switch out the ribbon for your favorite belt!
Here I styled this dress with a hot pink cropped MAK cardigan, vintage hair scarf, and earrings. This is another great idea for Valentine's Day or simply a great transitional look into spring. I also had fun trying out this dress with a vintage coat and cute modern knit headband!
I saved the best for last! Without a doubt, I would wear any and all of these dresses. However, if I had to pick a favorite, the Dinah Plaid Floral dress would be it! I can't get over how much I love the mix of the geometric shapes and florals that make up the fabric. One of my favorite color combinations is hot pink with black and white. The skirt is perfectly full and the length is spot on. As if that wasn't already enough, this dress has POCKETS!
Here I layered the Dinah over a polka dotted tie neck blouse. I paired with a hot pink knit turban, black belt and booties. This is another look that I would wear now and put with a cute pair of flats (sans the hat) for spring.
Throughout this post I had lots of fun mixing prints! All of these dresses have such fantastic bold prints that they are the perfect pieces to experiment with! For those of you that have trouble print mixing, I wrote out a few tips that help me when putting a look together!
Print Mixing Tips
1. If the colors look good together, most often so will the prints.
2. The simpler the print, the easier it is to match. This is why stripes, plaids, and polka dots look good with almost anything!
3. Break up the look with solids. For example, a solid belt or solid tights.
4. Print mix with accessories! A leopard hat with a plaid skirt. Polka dotted tights with a floral dress.
All of these dresses are now available for purchase on the website! Snag that Valentine's Day date dress or liven up your wardrobe with a new brightly colored frock! These pieces are multi-seasonal staples!
